Focus on Stability and Workflow Refinements · Release Candidate 23
Workflow Improvements
Variant Handling for External Editors: Aspect now has improved handling of files saved from external editors. If you use a separate editor and save a file using "Save As" or "Export" with a prefix matching the original filename, Aspect will recognize this as a variant of the original file. This ensures your edited versions automatically inherit the collections of the source photo and also that the first variant of an original will replace it within the workspace view.
Library Synchronization Warnings: We’ve added a warning message to alert you if your library synchronization settings aren't fully configured for all your photos. This is to help you avoid unexpected synchronization behavior. Take a moment to review your sync settings if you see this warning.
Bug Fixes & Stability
This release contains a number of bug fixes aimed at improving the stability and reliability of Aspect. Key fixes include:
- Crash Prevention: Several fixes have been implemented to prevent crashes, specifically addressing issues when using the "Edit a Copy" function, creating new libraries (particularly when dealing with removable drives).
- User Interface Refinements: You'll find fixes for UI inconsistencies, like scroll bar display in text fields and unexpected collection pane navigation. The file save dialog on Windows should now always display file format options correctly.
- Trash Can View and Collection Creation: We’ve cleaned up the trash can view by removing extraneous (context) menu entries and corrected the availability of collection creation entries within search results.
- Revision File Integrity: A fix was implemented to protect against potential corruption of the revision file (HEAD) in case of system crashes during the write process.
