Focused Improvements & Stability · Release Candidate 25

This update focuses on refining the user experience and bolstering the stability of Aspect, particularly around library management and file handling.

Enhanced User Experience

  • Event Header Visibility: We've adjusted the smallest display size for event headers. Now, all key information remains visible even when using the compact view. This is a subtle change designed to improve readability at a glance.
  • Library Path Visibility: Hovering over a local library instance entry in the library list now displays the full path to the associated folder. This offers a quick and easy way to verify the location of your libraries.

Stability & Data Integrity

  • Improved Revision File Handling: We’re continuing to prioritize data safety. This update includes further improvements to the HEAD revision file, employing more robust recovery strategies designed to protect against potential data corruption caused by hardware issues.
  • Notification for Library Load Failures: You’re now more clearly informed when there’s a failure to load a secondary local library instance. These failures will now be displayed as a notification, allowing for quicker troubleshooting.
  • Addressing Library Locking Issues: We’ve tackled an issue where library load failures could sometimes lead to unnecessary lock failures, even after the original problem was resolved. This should result in a smoother library loading experience.

Bug Fixes

Beyond these enhancements, this update includes several bug fixes targeting crashes and unexpected behavior:

  • macOS Path Handling: Resolved a crash that could occur when selecting paths containing non-ASCII characters for library or photo folders on macOS.
  • Video Decoding: Fixed a crash in the video decoder on macOS after loading videos over a network.
  • Synchronization Improvements: Several fixes were implemented to improve the handling of file synchronization, specifically around simultaneous deletions and additions. We’ve also addressed some reported synchronization errors for local library instances.
  • UI/UX Fixes: Minor fixes were also made to ensure a more consistent and reliable UI, including preventing activity progress text from persisting and correcting the vertical placement of event header images.
