Refined Search, Workflow Tweaks, and Stability Improvements · Release Candidate 35
Improved Text Search Capabilities
We've made some targeted improvements to the text search function. The core change is the implementation of stemming. This means searches now match variations of words – for instance, searching for “ice” will also find images tagged with “icy.” This isn't a broad wildcard; stemming operates based on linguistic roots. Critically, it won’t match unrelated words.
We’ve also introduced a simple way to exclude terms from your search. Prepending a minus sign (“-”) before a search word will restrict results to only those not containing that term. This offers more precise control over your searches.
Workflow and Library Management
Previously, the order in which images were analyzed didn't align with the default sorting order of your photo streams. This has been corrected, so image analysis now follows the order you see in your library.
We've also made a subtle visual change: shortened several field captions in the metadata pane to provide more visual space for the values themselves.
Finally, when adding system folders or cloud-backed folders to your library, you’re now presented with a warning dialog. This highlights potential considerations related to potential data corruption.
Addressing Stability and Sync Issues
A number of bug fixes are included in this release, primarily focused on stability and sync reliability:
- Performance: A performance issue related to keyword refreshes and an open collection pane has been resolved.
- Application Shutdown: A potential crash during application shutdown, caused by unfinished metadata pane updates, has been fixed.
- Image Analysis & Sync: Issues preventing image analysis and preview downloads for images not locally available have been addressed.
- iOS Specific Improvements: Several improvements have been made to the iOS version, including fixes for status text display, errors during library statistics gathering, and correcting issues with library connection handling.
- Linux Specific Fixes: Several fixes have been included for Linux users, addressing a crash during language selection and a visual issue where dialogs appeared black.
As always, see the change log for the full list of changes.
