Aspect started out with a sleek dark interface theme with neutral colors. This choice ensures that the photos appear undisturbed by their surroundings within the application. It also reduces eye-strain when working in dim environments and is usually the preferred default for working with photos professionally.

However, there are times and kinds of photography where a light background can generally be more desirable. The comparison images nicely demonstrate how the light theme can shift the mood to match the photography. Also, while some prefer darker tones, to many a bright user interface can also simply be more appealing.

Together with the new theme, the dark theme has also received a few improvements, such as refined shadows and modernized check boxes.
